My name is GERALDINE WEIGAND (nee HOULIHAN)
and these are my roots.

These are my two sets of great-grandparents
on my mother's side
(DEMERS and DUQUETTE)
and their children:

Some of these names are links to special pages
about them (with any available photos or sketches).
When I refer to them elsewhere you will know how
they fit into the family.

I have no information like this
on my father's side, sorry to say.

DEMERS

GREGOIRE DEMERS and JULIENNE DUPUIS were married in Canada. His occupation was road maintenance and she was pregnant most of the time. Like any good French Catholic family in Canada, they had many children (perhaps 19). Many of them died as infants or were stillborn. Nine of their children survived: Elie, Joseph, Arthur, Peter, Leon, Emma, Delia, Roseanna, and Odna (my grandmother).

ELIE married CELINA ALLARD and they produced two children, Ann and Anatole.

JOSEPH married ? and produced one child, Joseph Jr.(called Little Joe).

ARTHUR married EVA ? and they produced one daughter, Doris. (Doris has supplied our family with all the information on our French-Canadian ancestors, with lots of help from genealogy researcher, Philippe Hebert.)

PETER married ALICE ? and they produced 6 children: Leo, Elie, Ida, Homer, George, and ?.

LEON married VICTORIA ? and they produced about 6 children: Rosena, Arthur, and 4 others whose names are unknown to me.

EMMA married ABRAHAM MOOTH and produced 3 children: Albert, Joseph, and Stella. Stella died as a young child, having eaten some lye or other product used at that time.

DELIA married FRANK RACINE and they produced 3 children: Elie, Wilfred, and Irene.

ROSEANNA married ELZEAR GENDRON and they produced 5 children: George, Harry, Rosa, Eva, and ?.

ODNA married CHARLES DUQUETTE in Southbridge, Massachusetts in 1906 at Eglise Notre Dame. They had 4 children: Stella Pearl (b. 1907 d. 1925), Charles (ordained a Franciscan priest in 1933, taking the name Jerome--b. 1909 d. 1989), Vivian (my mother - b. 1911 m. 1932 d. 1978), and Leo (b. 1913 m. 1933 d. 1979).

DUQUETTE

LOUIS DUQUETTE and ELLEN TODRIFF (d. 1941) were married, but we don't know how or where they met. Ellen's nationality was Engish and they lived in West Rutland, VT. Ellen had a sister (Mary) whose home was in West Rutland, VT. ELLEN became the matriarch of the DUQUETTE family and was known by following generations as "GRANDMA". Their children were: Zeffie, Etta, Alice, Frank, Harvey, Solomon, Albert, Richard, Hattie, Mary (Minnie), AND Charles. These are not in birth order. If there were miscarriages, we don't know.

ALICE (b. 1872 d. 1923) married and they produced 6 children: George, Lester, Leonard, Clifford, Alan, and Hazel. Hazel died at 17 yrs of age of tuberculosis.

ETTA (b, around 1879 in W.Rutland,CT - m. Frank LaBombard, 1896) They had one son, Raymond (b. 1898 d. 1935 -tuberculosis). Etta's nickname was KITTY or KIT.

RICHARD married FRANCES (Fannie) and they had 3 children: Richard Jr., Virginia (Virgie), and Evelyn. Richard's nickname was CHICK. He was a friendly, likable man, with a wicked twinkle in his eyes (just like his sister ETTA).

FRANK (b. 1873 d. 1936) married MARY (b. 1871 d. 1931) and they are both buried in St. Joseph's Cemetry, Utica, NY. It is unknown if they had children. Frank and his brother Charles (my grandfather) loved playing checkers.

ALBERT is a new name that has come to light. He may have died as an infant from typhoid fever. It is believed he is buried in THE FRENCH CATHOLIC CEMETERY (Lot 13, Section I North) in W.Rutland, VT.

MARY (Minnie)(d. 1965)married FRANK ST.JEAN (St.John)(b. 1878 d. 1948). They are both buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro, NY. They had 2 children: A daughter who died as an infant and buried in the same cemetery as her parents, and NELSON (b. 1908 d. 1973).

HATTIE (b. 1879 d. 1956) married FRED STANLEY, but they never had any children. However, they nursed her niece ELLEN (NELLIE) at the end of her life (tuberculosis), and raised Ellen's son DAVID.

ZEFFIE was killed in an accident when he was a young man working in the quarry. (Leo Z. DuKette, my uncle, was given the name Zeffie as his middle name)

SOLOMON (b. 1885 d. 1950) married PEARL (b. 1895 d. 1946)who already had a son. Solomon and Pearl are both buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro, NY.

CHARLES (my grandfather - b. 1877 d. 1933) married twice. His first wife was LAURA ALDRICH (d. around 1904-5) and they had two children: Louis and Ellen. Louis died as an infant and Ellen was raised by Charles' mother (ELLEN DUQUETTE) in their Main Street residence in New York Mills, NY. - Charles' married my grandmother, ODNA DEMERS in 1906 in Southbridge, MA. They produced 4 children: Stella Pearl (b. 1907 d. 1925 tuberculosis); Charles (became a Franciscan priest in 1933 taking the name JEROME - b. 1909 d. 1989); Vivian ( my mother - b. 1911 - d. 1978); Leo (b. 1913 d. 1979).
